Current density maps, magnetizability, and nuclear magnetic shielding tensors of bis-heteropentalenes. III. Thieno-thiophene isomers
2005
Near Hartree–Fock values of the magnetic susceptibility and nuclear magnetic shielding of bis-heteropentalenes consisting of two thiophene units ([2,3-b], [3,2-b], [3,4-b], and [3,4-c] isomers) have been estimated via computational schemes relying on continuous transformation of the origin of the current density within the coupled Hartree–Fock approximation and extended gaugeless Gaussian basis sets. The results are compared with those obtained via London gauge-including orbitals. Maps of streamlines and the modulus of the ring current density induced by a magnetic field normal to the molecular plane are reported for the three isomers of higher symmetry, showing that the intense diamagnetic…
Calculations of the atomic and electronic structure for SrTiO3 perovskite thin films
2001
The results of calculations of SrTiO3 (100) surface relaxation and rumpling with two different terminations (SrO and TiO2) are presented and discussed. We have used the ab initio Hartree–Fock (HF) method with electron correlation corrections and the density functional theory (DFT) with different exchange–correlation functionals, including hybrid exchange techniques. All methods agree well on surface energies and on atomic displacements, as well as on the considerable increase of covalency effects near the surface. More detailed experiments on surface rumpling and relaxation are necessary for further testing of theoretical predictions.
Thickness scaling of space-charge-limited currents in organic layers with field- or density-dependent mobility
2006
An exact solution is provided for the current density-voltage (J –V) characteristics of space-charge limited transport of a single carrier in organic layers with field-dependent mobility of the type μ (E) = μ0 exp (γ √E. The general scaling relationship for field-dependent mobility occurs in terms of the variables JL and V /L. For the density-dependence of the mobility found in organic field-effect transistor measurements, the thickness scaling occurs in terms of different variables, J1/βL and V /L. The proposed scaling is a useful test for distinguishing field- and carrier density-dependent mobility in disordered organic semiconductors. (© 2006 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
PCA Gaussianization for image processing
2009
The estimation of high-dimensional probability density functions (PDFs) is not an easy task for many image processing applications. The linear models assumed by widely used transforms are often quite restrictive to describe the PDF of natural images. In fact, additional non-linear processing is needed to overcome the limitations of the model. On the contrary, the class of techniques collectively known as projection pursuit, which solve the high-dimensional problem by sequential univariate solutions, may be applied to very general PDFs (e.g. iterative Gaussianization procedures). However, the associated computational cost has prevented their extensive use in image processing. In this work, w…
Muon capture revisited
1990
Abstract The problem of inclusive muon capture in nuclei is studied by calculating the capture rate in asymmetric infinite nuclear matter and using the local density approximation to evaluate the capture rates in nuclei. It is shown that the method is rather reliable and allows one to improve on approximations used in the past. The need for a strong nuclear renormalization is shown, reducing the capture rates by about a factor two in medium and heavy nuclei. By using standard effective interactions in the spin-isospin channel one can account for this renormalization and one finds a remarkable overall agreement with the measured capture rates for a large list of nuclei through the periodic t…
Röntgenklein winkeluntersuchungen zur struktur der fehlgeordneten bereiche in verstrecktem polyäathylen. Teil II: Messungen an kontrastierten proben
1968
Integrating LSTMs with Online Density Estimation for the Probabilistic Forecast of Energy Consumption
2019
In machine learning applications in the energy sector, it is often necessary to have both highly accurate predictions and information about the probabilities of certain scenarios to occur. We address this challenge by integrating and combining long short-term memory networks (LSTMs) and online density estimation into a real-time data streaming architecture of an energy trader. The online density estimation is done in the MiDEO framework, which estimates joint densities of data streams based on ensembles of chains of Hoeffding trees. One attractive feature of the solution is that queries can be sent to the here-called forecast-based point density estimators (FPDE) to derive information from …
Forest of Normalized Trees: Fast and Accurate Density Estimation of Streaming Data
2018
Density estimation of streaming data is a relevant task in numerous domains. In this paper, a novel non-parametric density estimator called FRONT (forest of normalized trees) is introduced. It uses a structure of multiple normalized trees, segments the feature space of the data stream through a periodically updated linear transformation and is able to adapt to ever evolving data streams. FRONT provides accurate density estimation and performs favorably compared to existing online density estimators in terms of the average log score on multiple standard data sets. Its low complexity, linear runtime as well as constant memory usage, makes FRONT by design suitable for large data streams. Final…
Online Density Estimation of Heterogeneous Data Streams in Higher Dimensions
2016
The joint density of a data stream is suitable for performing data mining tasks without having access to the original data. However, the methods proposed so far only target a small to medium number of variables, since their estimates rely on representing all the interdependencies between the variables of the data. High-dimensional data streams, which are becoming more and more frequent due to increasing numbers of interconnected devices, are, therefore, pushing these methods to their limits. To mitigate these limitations, we present an approach that projects the original data stream into a vector space and uses a set of representatives to provide an estimate. Due to the structure of the est…
Density-dependent regulation of natural and laboratory rotifer populations
2001
Density-dependent regulation of abundance is fundamentally important in the dynamics of most animal populations. Density effects, however, have rarely been quantified in natural populations, so population models typically have a large uncertainty in their predictions. We used models generated from time series analysis to explore the form and strength of density-dependence in several natural rotifer populations. Population growth rate (r) decreased linearly or non-linearly with increased population density, depending on the rotifer species. Density effects in natural populations reduced r to 0 at densities of 1–101−1 for 8 of the 9 rotifer species investigated. The sensitivities of these spe…
